In particular, individuals and professionals who travel a lot, and technically active or are in constant contact with pathogens should have sufficient immunization. Read here, what vaccinations are part of a complete primary series for adults.Vaccination

Diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis.

Diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis – against these three diseases every adult in US should be vaccinated at least three times in his life. It should be noted that the vaccination against diphtheria and tetanus every ten years needs to be refreshed. Against Polio (poliomyelitis) refresher should take place at least a in adulthood. Furthermore, vaccination against whooping cough (pertussis) as a combination vaccine is recommended to add in the refresh of diphtheria and tetanus.

Pertussis (whooping cough).

For a few years Pertussis (whooping cough) occurs frequently in adults. While in 1995 mainly young people were affected by whooping cough, the mean age of patients was already 42 years at 2009. Why is that? Before the introduction of vaccination in 1995, every year several thousand children died from an infection with pertussis and the pathogen circulated constantly among the population. Since 1995, the incidence and death rates declined sharply and also the pathogen circulating rarely. This in turn meant that the immune system of adults “forget” how the pathogen looks like. But since neither a disease nor a vaccine can’t provide lifelong protection, a vaccination in adulthood is recommended.

Additional vaccinations for adults.

Since 2010 is recommended in addition to these four vaccinations and vaccination against measles for all adults who were born after 1970. Because the largest vaccination gaps there are currently among adolescents and young adults. Age carry a booster shot. For all people over 60 also are recommended to have vaccination against influenza (flu) and pneumococcal. Vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is necessary only in the high-risk areas.
